About The Role

Step into a defining leadership role where creativity meets strategy, and vision drives impact. As the Director of Marketing at Tourism Richmond (TR), you won’t just lead—you’ll inspire a powerhouse marketing team to shape bold campaigns, elevate a destination brand, and redefine how marketing success is measured. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is built for a trailblazing marketer who’s equal parts strategist, storyteller, and data whisperer. With your finger on the pulse of market trends and your heart in the craft, you’ll architect dynamic, integrated marketing strategies that resonate across paid, owned, and earned channels. You’ll champion innovation, cultivate stakeholder relationships, and mentor a high-performing team to deliver exceptional results. As the Director, Marketing, you will be responsible for these key functions:

Department & Team Management

  • Develop and maintain annual Marketing budget and progress reports.
  • Develop and manage goals and objectives, projects and priorities and assign them to appropriate team members as required.

Marketing Strategy Leadership

  • Oversee the implementation of the Marketing strategy - including campaigns, events, media relations, digital marketing, in alignment with TR’s tactical plans.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of strategies for paid, owned, and earned communication channels.
  • Lead the development and implementation of TR’s annual destination brand campaign.
  • Foster a digital oriented, data-driven team culture, including ensuring the marketing technology stack and related platforms and tools are in-place.

External Relations Management

  • Engage industry stakeholders and partners with various programs and initiatives.
  • Direct and expertly manage the relationship with agencies and suppliers.
  • Attend community events on behalf of Tourism Richmond.

Internal Relations Management

  • Work closely with the team members from all departments; enabling them to meet their objectives by providing them with appropriate tools, materials and presentations.
  • Integrate and leverage marketing initiatives to fully support activities and programs implemented by Business Development, Destination Development, Industry Development, and Visitor Services.

What You Will Bring

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in marketing.
  • 8+ years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Proven experience and success in the development, planning, and execution of marketing plans.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Skilled in directing and organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Expert knowledge of marketing trends and digital marketing techniques.
  • Technologically savvy with a keen awareness of emerging tools, platforms, and industry trends.
