Communications Consultant - Corporate contract
As RDC brand ambassadors, we will create integrated marketing and communications strategies and tactics that are professional, relevant and inspiring, to meet the business goals of all areas of the College.
The Communications Consultant - Corporate liaises with the College's Schools, Service Departments, external stakeholders, the media, and works closely with the President's Office to create a positive image of RDC though proactive and reactive internal and external communications.
The Communications Consultant - Corporate gives voice to what makes RDC the great institution that it is. By utilizing RDC's consistent brand voice and developing key messages, the Communications Consultant - Corporate strengthens the College's brand to encourage community awareness, engagement and increased enrollment of learners.
Major Responsibilities are as follows:
Media Relations:
- Determine the most effective tools to distribute information to media
- Proactively identify and distribute information about the College's practices in a proactive, positive, consistent and credible manner to the media
- Write and distribute regular College stories through Media Releases and Advisories
- Pitch story ideas to relevant media
- Respond to media inquiries in a timely manner
- Connect media to staff and faculty who are experts in their fields
- Coordinate media conferences and media events
- Remain current with local, national and international news (including news specific to the post-secondary sector)
Corporate Communications:
- Liaise regularly with the President's Office to develop and distribute strategic communication pieces to internal and external audiences
- Ensure corporate key messages are prevalent in all College communication pieces
- Support and advise Marketing and Communication Consultants as they work with internal requesting departments in the development of external communication strategies and key message content that support the overall strategic direction of the college
- Crisis Communications - craft and distribute clear, concise and effective messaging directed to a variety of internal and external audiences
Speech Writing:
- Liaise with the President's Office to develop scripts and speaking notes for the President and Board Chair at media conferences and special events
- Develop Book of Words for Convocation
Internal Communications:
- Support and advise Marketing and Communications Consultants and College Program and Service Departments to share key message with internal stakeholders
- Develop and deliver message through multiple platforms
External Communications:
- Expected to increase awareness of RDC's Applied Research/Centre for Innovation in Manufacturing, scholarly activity, student, faculty and staff stories/testimonials highlighting our academic reputation
- Develop concepts, write scripts, organize schedules, and interview internal and external stakeholders
- Deliver stories and messages through multiple platforms including: digital signage, editorials, web and print publications, social media, photography, film and video production and other media
- Collaborate with "content generators" across Campus to develop stories that demonstrate strong brand awareness and credibility
- Provide coverage for the Communications Consultant - Creative Writer on an as needed basis, working closely with the Online Marketing & Communications Coordinator to implement social media policy and strategy, to create social media content with consistent brand voice to engage and respond to followers through various social media channels
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism and 2-3 years equivalent experience
- Demonstrated superior written and oral communication and editing skills
- Experience in working with the media and the public
- Strong project management skills gained from experience managing multiple projects
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving skills; ability to anticipate requesting department needs
- Flexibility; ability to multi-task, adapt to changing priorities and to prioritize projects
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite
- Working knowledge in use of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) an asset
- Experience working with photography and working knowledge of videography an asset
Preferred Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism
- Membership and/or accreditation with Canadian Public Relations Society and/or International Association of Business Communicators desired
