This is a full time, temporary role until September 2020.
Your role
We are looking for an energetic and forward thinking Associate Producer to take on a vital support role for our local afternoon radio program, The Homestretch. You perform editorial assignments related to the gathering, writing and presentation of program material for radio primarily but on occasion all of our media platforms. You participate in the production, direction and/or post-production of a program and/or program segment. You should be comfortable with the demands and needs of television, radio and online news production. You should have some experience in field production, and be comfortable chasing and developing enterprise journalism and original research. Advice, guidance and direction are regularly available from one or more producers, but there is latitude for initiative and judgment. There may be opportunity to coordinate the work of others and close cooperation with the program unit is essential.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
- University degree or equivalent.
- A minimum of two years related experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team as a leader and/or contributing member.
- Strong writing and editorial abilities.
- Exceptionally strong research and organizational skills.
- Extensive general knowledge.
- Extensive knowledge of Calgary and Southern Alberta.
- Experience directing a radio show would be an asset.
- Strong on-air presence.
- Strong and enthusiastic team player.
- Connected to the community.
- Curious, quick thinking, incisive and critical thinker.
- Innovative with programming ideas.
- Experience using social media to research, develop and source stories.
- Passionate about both stories and issues.
- Demonstrated attention to accuracy under time constraints required.
