Web Designer/Developer (Term) contract
Under the general supervision of the Director, Online Marketing & Communications, the Web Designer/Developer is responsible for design and front-end development of web sites, social media communications and email communications. Duties include design of websites, emails, social media assets and, animations; image editing; HTML/CSS/JQuery development on Wordpress and Drupal based websites; responsive HTML development of email templates; making updates to sites; other duties as assigned. The Web Designer/Developer is responsible for designing and developing websites and, related communications in support of the alumni and donor engagement activities of the Division of University Advancement and the broader advancement community at the University of Toronto.
As an integral part of the Advancement Communications and Marketing team, the incumbent works closely with other website managers and coordinators and with designers, writers, program managers and program coordinators from across the University. In addition, the incumbent provides direct technical and creative support to a wide variety of stakeholders, clients, and users, including DUA staff, divisional advancement staff, and alumni and donors of the University.
Qualifications (minimum)
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in related field; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
At least three (3) years in website design and digital media design, experience in HTML development of digital media and web. Experience supporting communications or marketing functions an asset. Experience in editing digital design, including images processing. Experience in administering content management systems and applications, and using social media and new media tools – including social networking sites, video sharing sites, blogs, etc.
Skills:
Formal training in web development Deep understanding and appreciation of design and graphic design principles. Strong computer skills, including: proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), e-mail and Internet applications. Proficiency of Macintosh and PC as well as appropriate software packages for word processing, graphic design and communications. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (advanced level in Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, InDesign). Proficiency with use of HTML/XHTML, CSS, and CMS functionally necessary. Knowledge of web tracking tools, e.g. Webtrends and Google Analytics as they apply to website design and on-going maintenance. Demonstrated web design skills, including layout, typography, graphic design principles and colour theory, is required. Clear understanding of how design translates to code. Knowledge of current web design and development technologies is required. Deep understanding of website usability and user experience principles. Knowledge and experience applying usability and accessible web design practices. Demonstrated understanding of SEO (Search Engine Optimization).

Strong written and verbal communications skills; ability to explain technical concepts to laypersons. Ability to synthesize information from numerous sources. Demonstrated adaptability and ability to pick up new techniques or programs; strong multi-tasking skills; willingness and ability to work with various software and to upgrade web page management skills and technology on an ongoing basis. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work independently and as a team member and attention to detail and deadlines. Accurate manual dexterity with keyboarding skills; ability to operate general office equipment, including a scanner as well as a still and video camera.

Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: USW Pay Band 09 -- $53,159 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $67,981. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
