Your opportunity:

The U of T Spaces & Experiences Marketing and Communications team consists of brand, web, media, design, and social media experts who support all the Spaces & Experiences business streams, with a strong focus on brand development and marketing and communications strategies and tactics. The team is highly collaborative with all our Spaces & Experiences business unit partners to ensure the achievement of various business objectives.

Working under the general supervision of the team’s Creative Manager and reporting to the Director, Marketing & Communications - the Social Media and Digital Communications Officer will create compelling digital content, build engaging social media campaigns, provide web support, and advise on best practices that achieve the strategic plans and initiatives of not only the portfolio but the variety of businesses encompassed therein. This role requires a collaborative communicator with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and partners. The successful incumbent will have an expert-level understanding of content creation, social media platforms and related audiences, while contributing to audience engagement and growth, supporting organic campaigns, and developing original content.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing digital communication plans across a broad range of marketing/communication channels
  • Advising on best practices and strategies to maximize digital communication initiatives to also align websites with marketing/communication objectives
  • Analyzing metrics to identify trends and effectiveness of campaigns and/or programs
  • Fostering and maintaining positive relationships with targeted social media communities both internally and externally
  • Analyzing and recommending options for the development of visual expression/layout of digital assets
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms and ensuring the consistency of appearance amongst digital assets and recommend options for the development of visual expression/layout of digital assets
  • Creating and maintaining presence on social media platforms and implementing social media campaigns
  • Developing and editing standard operating procedures for online content production and use as well as serving as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidance

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing/Communications or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Post graduate certificate in Digital Marketing/Social Media an asset
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in social media and digital communications and successfully implementing social media strategies and campaigns.
  • Proven experience planning out social media content calendar, as well as conceptualizing, developing, and executing high impact, social media campaigns based on strategic plans.
  • Experience with gathering relevant information and effectively disseminating information via social media and websites.
  • Proven track record of recommending ideas for both internal and external audiences.
  • Extensive experience managing social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. in a complex organization.
  • Proven ability to build highly engaged social communities and maintain a presence on social media platforms.
  • Experience with maintaining information on a website, ensuring links are up-to-date, and technical issues are resolved.
  • Experience leading and/or coordinating photography and video shoots, conducting post-production management, and managing a digital asset library.
  • Demonstrated experience balancing competing priorities and multiple projects concurrently and within tight timelines.
  • Well-informed on industry best practices and ability to identify trends using metrics.
  • Advanced content creation skills, including photography and video capturing and editing.
  • Deep knowledge of digital media platforms and audience segmentation principles, practices, and techniques to successfully expand online audiences.
  • Well-informed on applicable copyright, access, and privacy laws
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • A self-starter with a passion for new media and the latest digital and social trends.
  • Proficient in post-production content editing using editing tools such as (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Canva)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency with project management and digital media planning tools
