Your role
CBC Ontario is looking for a dynamic leader to lead the region’s marketing and communications team who work in Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa. This team is responsible for driving audience growth, particularly in the GTA, and raising brand awareness and community outreach across Ontario. Audience growth in this region is the greatest potential contributor to the success of CBC’s overall audience growth strategy.
The Sr. Manager, with the support of the team, is responsible for all of the strategic plans for every marketing and communications initiative for the Ontario Region, which is comprised of eight stations across the province, including our largest and highest priority local market, CBC Toronto.
We are looking for someone with strength and experience in both marketing and community outreach. The region requires an innovative and experienced leader to capture the attention of an increasingly diverse audience on a growing range of platforms. Staying ahead of industry trends and tactics is essential. This person is a key member of the Ontario leadership team, helping shape the plans for the region’s future state with detailed market analysis. Their expertise will give direction to senior managers and editorial leaders to help shape editorial project and outreach plans against strategic priorities.
This Sr. Manager will represent the region on the all network files related to Ontario markets and will help shape the local approach to CBC programs and projects.
This person is the face of CBC for local partnerships in Ontario and is responsible for managing new and existing partnerships and sponsorships with external groups, ensuring that they continue to meet strategic goals.
This role requires a leader who independently identifies upcoming issues and develops thoughtful communications strategies to support the Senior Managing Director. Talent in this regard is essential to protecting the reputation of the CBC.
This person helps craft both internal and external communications products and, when necessary, crafts FAQs to support the Senior Managing Director.
Working with remote teams, this leader must anticipate problems that may arise and lead remotely when unexpected events unfold during key outreach and marketing activities across the region. Inclusive and consistent leadership is key.
Tasks:
- Leads the marketing and communication team (4 Senior Communications Officers, 1 Promo Producer) for the Ontario Region (8 locations), to work closely with the regional senior leadership team, and the senior managing director to accomplish the overall goals of the region, the News, Current Affairs and Local Division and the CBC as a whole.
- Plays a key leadership role in the organization and execution of all audience-focused events held across the region, including remote broadcasts and outreach events to ensure that audience growth strategies are central to these projects.
- Plays a leadership role with editorial staff, bringing a lens of marketing and communications to the planning and execution of editorial projects for all platforms across the region.
- Works with strategic partners both internally and externally to develop relationships that deliver on key performance indicators (i.e. engagement and building awareness and loyalty on all CBC platforms)
- Is constantly building key relationships in the GTA and Ottawa to build new audience.
- Collaborates with with leaders who have a range of expertise and experience outside of Communications and Marketing.
- Comes up with exciting new ways to gain the attention of potential new audience members, particularly in our two largest markets.
- Works with industry experts - both internal and external - to develop innovative digital media marketing plans.
- Identifying and developing relationships with external experts who may bring beneficial knowledge to the entire leadership team.
- Is on call for urgent matters. Weekend work is expected as needed. Travel will be a requirement for the person in this position.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
- Post-secondary education in Communications, Marketing/Advertising or related discipline or equivalent experience specifically relevant to this position
- Deep knowledge of Ontario and specific understanding of the highly competitive Toronto market. Understanding and strong affinity for CBC TV, Radio and Digital programming.
- Minimum ten (10) years experience delivering professional integrated services to business partners in the development and implementation of marketing and communication strategic plans; communications planning; and strategic account management including brand management, marketing, publicity, public relations, sponsorship, internal and external relation including some experience in crisis communications.
- Minimum five (5) years experience managing and leading teams.
- Exceptional strategic, client service, relationship management, negotiation and leadership skills. Ability to develop and maintain professional business relationships with clients, specialists and regional colleagues, and manage through influence. Tact and diplomacy are required.
