Production Graphic Designer full-time

SureWerxis looking for an experienced Production Graphic Designer at our Head Office location.
Under the creative direction of the Team Leader and reporting directly to the Marketing Coordinator, the successful candidate will bring a passion for design and production with a never ending quest to raise the bar and innovate. This is a required and important position within the Marketing Department that will not evolve into a creative designer position.
General Responsibilities:
Support the goals of the Marketing Department by providing graphic production of English and French marketing collateral, which includes, but not limited to product catalogues, flyers, brochures and packaging.
Produces product packaging, promotional flyers, new product announcements, labels and assists in producing special projects and requests in accordance with the creative strategy set by the Team Leader;
Able to follow basic design principles and adds an element of creativity with typography and page layout;
Performs basic page layout, typesetting, basic drawing and photo editing. Understands graphic resolution issues as it pertains to offset printing, display signage and the web;
Prepares files so they are RIP ready, with an understanding of colour printing with correct separations, linked files and applied fonts;
Working with the Adobe Creative Suite (primarily InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) in a Mac environment.
Follow graphic standards and templates with an eye for details.
Take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision.
You always proof your own work with a high attention to detail before handing off to the next team member.
At the end of the day, you’re able to fill in the blanks to get a job done.
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes:
5 - 7 years PRINT production experience in a pre-press or print production environment.
Basic to intermediate experience with Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
Proven experience sending files to vendors: factories and/or printers both locally and overseas using FTP and various other file transfer methods. Your files are bomb proof and can easily be worked with overseas.
A keen eye for typography, i.e.: you know when to kern and when to track. You know when to add leading or when to add paragraph spacing.
Knowledge of dielines and packaging constraints.
Understand image resolution issues as it pertains to offset printing and screen and know the difference between your CMYK, RGB and spot colours. You are also familiar with colour profiles.
Familiarity with offset printing on a variety of stocks from newsprint to gloss.
Image editing experience with paths, transparency, layers, and image masks.
Ability to work both independently and as a team member.
Able to handle demanding timelines while handling stress in a calm manner.
Able to schedule and shift priorities based on deadlines.
Strong communicator with effective written and verbal skills.
Takes direction well, flexible and the ability to learn quickly.
Ability to work overtime when required.
Assets:
Prior work experience in tools, safety apparel and personal protective equipment, construction, or automotive sectors.
Pre-press experience with a commercial offset printing company.
Work experience with the EasyCatalog plugin for InDesign.
Bilingual (English / French).
