Merchandising Manager, Global Merchandising
Reporting to the Director, Global Merchandising, the Merchandising Manager, Global Merchandising is responsible for the creation and execution of the global line plan for his/her product category. Informed by regional product needs, the global line plan represents global design and merchandising direction and delivers against seasonal business strategies that meet or exceed guest expectations and financial goals. The Merchandising Manager partners with Planning and incorporates relevant Regional input to build shell plans and preliminary assortments, which support Global and Regional seasonal strategies. He/she must collaborate effectively with Global Design, Development, Commercialization, Sourcing, Production and the Global Brand Team to bring the product line to life. The Merchandising Manager is responsible for the development of other members of the global merchandising team.
a day in the life of a Merchandising Manager, Global Merchandising
- Accountable for the creation and execution of a global line plan for assigned product categories.
- Owns the pre-season planning process, breaking down roadmap stories into seasonal line plan and managing style/sku productivity.
- Partner with Director, Global Merchandising to manage breadth of global line plan with Design and Development.
- Accountable for creating two-way dialogue with regional buying team to ensure that regional input is incorporated into the global line plan, to understand business performance of assigned product categories in season and to feed learnings into pod.
- Lead weekly pod meetings
- Provide leadership for the pod to meet key GTM gate deliverables and pod dashboard metrics.
- Manage the product lifecycle for all styles in assigned product categories including introduction, build and retirement of those styles.
- Provides monthly and quarterly performance summaries to support executive reviews.
- Trains, supports and develops global Merchants and Assistant Merchants.
The finer print required:
- 5-8 years’ experience in retail apparel in a merchant or buying role
- Bachelor’s degree
- Vertical retail experience required. Omni channel experience highly desirable
- Excellent sense of style and color trends; athletically minded
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret multiple data points across numerous channels and market segments
- Proven ability to work with and lead a cross functional team
- Excellent communication skills - interpersonal, written and verbal
- Entrepreneurship – an ability to make decisions and take calculated risks
- Strong knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook); working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator preferred
- Willingness to travel (domestic and international) and work on the retail floor
