Graphic Designer – Superintendent’s Office
(Technical and Resource Support D)
$31.21 per hour plus 18.6% in lieu of benefits
May 26, 2014 to approximately June 3, 2015
Work in BC’s most culturally diverse and urban school district, Vancouver School District No. 39. Set in one of the world’s most livable cities, Vancouver is a community-minded district seeking talented educators, progress leaders, and skilled support staff to enrich the learning experience of Vancouver’s 54,000 students.
Reporting to the Manager of Communications, you will produce graphic design work that applies to print and web, involving branding concepts, logos, page layout, cover designs, signage, icons, newsletters, and forms. You will design websites from initial prototypes to final deliverables of HTML, CSS and Java Script. You will create templates for existing web applications such as Sharepoint and Wordpress. You will develop ideas and solutions for consistent branding of the Vancouver School Board and work fluidly with a number of other departments to assist and support design requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of a University degree in Graphic technology or graphic design and a minimum of three years related professional experience with a portfolio showing work experience in both web and print design
- Ability to create original artwork and communicate and present creative ideas
- Sound knowledge of the principles and techniques of graphic design and layout
- Well versed in front end user interface design and client side coding
- Working knowledge of CSS, HTML, HTML5 and JQuery
- Understanding of legacy browser issues and work-arounds and cross browser design
- Ability to design for different screen sizes and browser specifications, including mobile browsers and tablets
- Working knowledge of current industry design software and interactive design methods
- Comfortable adapting the district’s graphical themes to meet communications objectives while maintaining brand consistency. Strong ability to envision and design a wide-range of print collateral including brochures, posters, booklets, banners and other print projects
- Sound knowledge of printing processes and procedures
- Ability to work independently to complete assigned projects and to establish and maintain effective working relationships
