Requirements
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Business, Marketing or similar.
Minimum of 8 to 10 years of relevant business experience and at least 3 years of high performance in direct sales and/or sales management within the technology industry.
Demonstrated ability to lead people and provide coaching/feedback.
Proven ability to successfully influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders.
Demonstrated interest in Marketing best practices and deep knowledge of the technology market.
Knowledge of the Canadian market including Montreal
Natural ability to effectively position a message and make it stick.
Strong analytical skills and proven strategic acumen.
Excellent presentation and Known for superb communication, interpersonal and project management skills.
Passionate, with a creative flair.
Responsibilities
The primary purpose of the Director of Marketing position is to plan, manage and develop research, advertising and promotional programs that stimulate consumer demand and sales activity, as well as to maximize market share. The Director of Marketing is to lead a team of Marketing Managers, increase the volume of Softchoice’s Sales Accepted Leads (SALs) through the creation and execution of marketing programs, campaigns, positioning materials, training, and effective call-to-actions. A key responsibility of this role is to gain alignment between our category and sales leaders in determining the best campaigns to execute and focus our sales resources on. The ideal candidate will have a high degree of credibility with both our Sales and Marketing organizations, and a proven track record of successfully interacting with senior stakeholders. They have demonstrated success in Sales, are well versed in the business value of technology, and have a natural ability to successfully package and position messages. The Director of Marketing will report to the SVP, Marketing & Business Development.
Manage Communications Manager and Marketing Manager(s).
Make staffing and hiring decisions within marketing department.
Build and develop a marketing team which is competent, commercially astute, dedicated and efficient.
Manage day to day activity with PR, press and marketing communications agencies.
Oversee corporate communications activities for Internal and External communications and systems, external vendors and consultants.
Develop and deliver insightful presentations and strategies to the business unit and executive committee where appropriate.
Ensure the integration of the business unit marketing function within that of the greater group, and ensure that the business unit optimizes its use of shared and support services.
Assist the business unit to meet its objectives, live the values and culture and to practice company policies.
Work on cross-functional teams to direct market research, advertising, sales, trade marketing and all aspects that affect the overall strategy and maximize success of the brand.
Plan and administer in the business review, budgeting, and forecasts.
Make recommendations on advertising, packaging, promotions, pricing within the allotted budget.
As part of a team, design, develop the marketing plan including objectives, media planning, and brand strategy.
Perform ongoing assessment of financial performance.
Utilization of market data, competitor analysis, customer analysis, and all other available data to stay current, and able to provide guidance/suggest changes to strategy.
Work with Softchoice’s Sales and Category Leaders to agree upon the Discovery Series campaigns for each region.
Translating business unit objectives and strategies to develop brand portfolio objectives, strategies and plans to facilitate business unit growth.
Coach and mentor Managers on how to effectively package and position messages.
Gain commitment from Sales Leaders to manage key execution metrics, and provide regular visibility to performance. To drive the vision with leaders & Marketing Managers and create a joint plan for execution with Sales that integrates all impacted departments - Corporate Marketing, Category Marketing and Sales.
Evaluate the success of campaigns and processes, and work through improvement areas.
Play a key role in setting the standard and content for Launch and Mid-year sales training.
