Reporting to the Chief Corporate Initiatives & Intergovernmental Relations and responsible for the direction of the Corporate Communications department, you will lead the planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of a wide range of external and internal communications programs and services. An entrepreneurial spirit, and the ability to develop insightful, innovative and creative solutions, will be essential as you play a critical role in executing Vaughan Vision 2020, the City of Vaughan’s strategic plan. Your ability to network and build relationships with influencers and stakeholders will aid you in developing partnerships and strategic alliances that ensure departmental goals are met, and in providing professional level consultation to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager and corporate management on the development of proactive communications strategies and media relations.
As the Director, Corporate and Strategic Communications, you will provide leadership and direction in the development and implementation of numerous corporate communications strategies, including media relations, marketing, government relations, crisis communications, issue management, public relations, and social media. Adept at talent development and performance management, you will oversee a diverse team executing complex and multifaceted initiatives, including developing policies, and facilitating internal and inter-departmental communications that contribute to the effectiveness of programs and services throughout the Corporation, while ensuring that corporate branding integrity is maintained.
Your ability to realize strategic initiatives into operational realities was developed through a post secondary degree in Communications, Business, Public Administration, Marketing or related field, and a minimum of eight (8) years’ directly relevant experience, including a minimum of seven (7) years experience at a comparable management level where you led and developed direct reports. Able to see the big picture and execute multiple projects against tight timelines, you have a track record of applying your strong analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with exceptional written and oral communication skills, to provide corporate communications excellence.
