We are recruiting for a Communications Specialist – a key member of our team – who can contribute their innovation and creativity to promoting SCI BC’s work through storytelling, social networking and program and event marketing. We are looking for someone who has the ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders in a team based environment and who is passionate about making a difference. Key strengths include outstanding writing skills, plus a strong knowledge of video storytelling, social media tools and marketing strategies.
This is a full-time, permanent position with a competitive salary and good benefits package.
Primary Areas of Responsibility:
- leads the development, execution and evaluation of an communications strategy aligned with goals outlined in our annual business plan
- writes and oversees production of multi-media materials and information including collateral materials, media releases and story pitches, videos, website content and blog posts
- contributes to story development, research, interviews and copy writing for publications, including The Spin magazine
- captures powerful video and photos to document our events and stories of impact
- creates a social media strategy and manage updates of Facebook and Twitter feeds
- responds to media inquiries and coordinates connection between media and SCI BC staff and volunteers
- coordinates effective marketing strategies to promote SCI BC activities and initiatives throughout the province
- oversees brand adherence on all promotion materials
We’re looking for:

- fluency in all MS Office applications and a good understanding of Adobe Creative Suite
- graphic communications skills
- the ability to develop, manage and evaluate strategic communications, programs and activities
The ideal background includes:
- Post secondary degree/certificate in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or a related field
- Minimally 3 to 5 years experience directly related to specified duties and responsibilities
Bonus points if:
- You have a basic understanding of HTML and/or website content management systems
- You have experience writing, shooting and editing promotional videos
- You are an excellent designer
