Communications Officer
No stranger to media and public relations, issues management, special events and print production, you welcome this opportunity to support the Peel District School Board’s goals and activities as part of the Communications and Community Relations Support Services team.
Reporting to the Senior Communications Officer, you will play a key role in fostering and maintaining authentic, mutually beneficial relationships between the Board, schools and our communities through the development and implementation of internal and external communication programs.
An outstanding writer, skilled in issues management, you can confidently develop communications materials, research and write concise, clear content using a wide variety of communication tools, and handle media and stakeholder relations. Your strong planning abilities will also come to the forefront as you research, develop and implement new strategic communications plans to support Board initiatives and goals, including diversity and inclusion communications, carry out social media planning, and coordinate special events. The Board’s senior administration, trustees, and school and department staff will consider you a knowledgeable resource, looking to you for communication support and strategic advice in areas such as urgent or unexpected projects and announcements.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
As a Communications Officer, you will leverage your 5 to 7 years’ experience, showing progressively more responsibility and on-the-job success, as well as your degree or diploma in public relations, communications or a related field. You will also draw upon your:
- Outstanding writing and strategic communication planning skills
- Excellent computer skills, including SharePoint and PowerPoint
- Experience in media relations, issues management, special events and print production
- Knowledge of public relations practices and principles
- Knowledge of Ministry of Education and school board policies, procedures and regulations
- Professional certification(s) (APR, ABC), an asset
- Ability to work under high pressure and tight timelines
- Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment.
