Reporting to the Manager, Business Development, the Business Development Officer is responsible for contributing to the growth of revenue and profitability derived from training provided to organizations in Edmonton, throughout Alberta, and across Western and Northern Canada. The Business Development Officer will accomplish this by using his or her experience in sales, relationship management, market development and negotiation to provide training and other educational or consultative services for our customers.

To be successful in this position requires an ability and commitment to listen, learn and interpret the needs of organizations that we engage. The successful candidate will also be able work with internal and contracted service providers to identify and negotiate costs and determine the fee we charge to our clients. To develop new customers and markets for NorQuest’s training and services, the candidate must be willing to travel to meet clients and be able to work evenings and weekends when necessary.

The Business Development Officer requires a significant amount of, proposal writing, communication, relationship management, and contract management.

The Business Development Officer position requires a significant amount of, proposal writing, communication, relationship management, and contract negotiation. These skills must be successfully utilized on a consistent basis in order to provide long-term value for NorQuest’s customers, stakeholders, and the community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

New Business Development

  • Work with internal and external partners to provide corporate training and non-credit personal and professional development courses.

  • Develop proposals that speak to customer needs, concerns and objectives.

  • Present an image that mirrors that of the client.

  • Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive conclusion

Client Retention

  • Present new products and services and enhance existing relationships.

  • Work with technical and other internal staff and colleagues to meet customer needs.

  • Arrange and participate in client debriefs.

Business Development Planning

  • Use knowledge of NorQuest’s market and competitors, identify and develop NorQuest’s unique selling proposition and differentiators.

  • Attend industry functions, events and conferences and provide feedback and information on market trends.

Management and Research

  • Record progress on training initiatives through strong attention to detail.

  • Track and record activity with accounts.

  • Develop a thorough understanding of NorQuest’s people and capabilities.

  • Forecast sales and prospecting activity targets and work toward this closing agreements to meet revenue and profitability requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate Degree in relevant field (e.g. social sciences, sciences, business).

  • 5 to 7 years of sales and new product/market development experience.

  • Must be available for evening and weekend work.

  • Demonstrated experience in an entrepreneurial environment.

  • Excellent oral, written and analytical skills.

  • Ability to determine priorities, be self-directed and work with minimal supervision.

  • Proficient in a variety of Microsoft Office programs

SALARY: $84,749- $105,965 commensurate with education and experience. This position also includes immediate participation in our comprehensive pension and benefits plan.
